‘But the priests, the Levites, the sons of Zadok, that kept the charge of My sanctuary when the children of Israel went astray from Me, they shall come near Me to minister to Me; and they shall stand before Me to offer to Me the fat and the blood,’ says the Lord GOD (Ezekiel 44:15).
Who are the Zadokites? We are a royal priesthood, a righteous and holy nation, chosen by God as His treasured possession, bought by the blood of Jesus Christ, and named after His own name (1 Peter 2:9). Yes, we who are named ‘The LORD our Righteousness’ are this righteous Zadokite priesthood!
The meaning of Zadok is ‘righteous,’ representing the holy, set-apart spiritual priesthood that acts with justice and faithfulness before the heavenly throne, not the human throne. The Zadokites are consecrated priests of God, who faithfully served the Lord while others went astray, pursuing the approval of men rather than obeying God.
The Zadokite priesthood was fearless against sin and was a living model of integrity. They taught people the difference between the holy and the profane. According to Ezekiel’s prophecy (44:15-31), God declares that only the sons of Zadok, among all the sons of Aaron, would be God’s priests allowed to come into God’s presence and minister the blood sacrifice before the LORD. This Old Testament prophecy is fulfilled in Messiah, who becomes the Passover Lamb, ministering a blood sacrifice before the Father.
As this prophecy’s fulfillment, the Zadokite priesthood is alive and well in the last days through us, the body of Christ, and holds a peculiar role in the millennium rule of Lord Jesus. These are the marks of the Zadokite priesthood: a priest, seer, and judge in one – that’s what we are in Christ Jesus!
May this revelation of Christ resonate deeply and accelerate your hope to live out your role as a consecrated royal priesthood of God, reigning in life in true holiness and righteousness in Christ Jesus.
