First & Last Words of Jesus Christ and Its Significance!
An amazing entry and an Extraordinary exit!
Let us learn what those words were!

We know that nothing in the bible is insignificant – the words, the phrases, symbols, numbers, their location……
All are “pregnant” with divine revelations!

Let us understand the importance of the first and the last words of our savior during His ministry on earth!
A. The recorded first WORDS OF JESUS!
“And when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said unto Him, Son, why have You thus dealt with us? Look, Your father and I have sought You sorrowing. And He said unto them, how is it that you sought Me? Know you not that I must be about My Father’s business?” [Luke 1:48,49]
Jesus was 12 years old when the event occurred. He, with His family, went up to Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover. After the feast, His family started journey homewards. But, Jesus stayed back and conversed with the teachers in the Temple, for 3 days. When His parents discovered that their son wasn’t travelling with the caravan, they went back to Jerusalem searching. His response to them were the first recorded (in Bible) words of Jesus – which revealed His mission – “ I am here to accomplish My father’s business”.
When He says, I am here to do my Fathers business; HE was genuinely focused on His purpose-Mission of His birth in this planet earth as human being!
Jesus came to the earth for a particular purpose, entrusted by the Father God. Yes, it was our God’s will to crush Him, on the cross, revealing His love for us. Sparing us the punishment and restoring us to Him through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ!
The two fold mission of Jesus Christ on the earth!

Let us now see what He says, while leaving from this earth!
B. The last words of Jesus, as a mortal, on the Cross
“When He had received the drink, Jesus said, “IT IS FINISHED “With that, he bowed his head and gave up His Spirit [John19:30]
I am so happy that He said “It Is Finished”. By that, we can be sure that HE DID what he was supposed to do – accomplish His mission. After completing His father’s business on earth, as a good servant, He bowed His head and gave up His spirit, into Father’s hands! I believe, Jesus being a carpenter professionally, knew the business norms of buying and selling. So, the appropriate norm used here was, “It Is Finished” or

“Paid in Full” (Greek – (Tetelestai),” – the deal between God and His Son is done!
[Tetelestai, verb teleo is “to bring to an end, to complete, to accomplish.” – signifies the successful end to a particular course of action, “I did exactly what I set out to do.” But there’s more here than the verb itself. Tetelestai – is in the perfect tense – speaks of an action which has been completed in the past with results continuing in the present – “This happened and it is still in effect today.”]
When Jesus cried out “It is Finished,” he meant “It was Finished in the past, it is still Finished in the present, and it will remain Finished in the future.”
Note: – Jesus did not say “I AM FINISHED” to imply that He died defeated and exhausted, though it’s a truth!
It’s the Saviors’ final cry of victory. When He died, He left no unfinished business. We just cannot add or remove anything to what Jesus had done! We only stand on it by faith!
When Jesus uttered those words He was declaring the debt (by mankind) owed to His father was wiped away, completely and forever.
Jesus eliminated the debt owed – by You and I- the debt of sin and all the form of its penalty!
When Jesus died on the cross, his work of redemption was complete. Jesus completed the work required to bring us back into communion with God. No other work is required. We cannot do anything to further the work of Jesus, and, even if we somehow could, there is no need to do so. He revealed the love of God to human race by His obedience and death on the cross and He restored us back to God! To our eternal Home!
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him”.… [John 3:16-17]
When Jesus proclaimed “IT IS FINISHED”, it was a shout of His joy (not like “I am glad this is over “). No! But it was victorious cry from His mouth that the victory is won, the captives are free to come home.
Yes, the curtain of the temple was torn from top to bottom, which to my understanding was done by our Father God- for us to boldly enter in His Holy of Holy presence and boldly call Him Abba Father.
He is happy, hugging us, as a loving father who was waiting long to have us in his arms, to lavish His love, to give us back what we have lost in the Eden, our position, authority and son ship! Yes! Jesus restored it all!

The perfect work of a loving Savior …The Gospel You love to hear!
