In the old covenant or the Ten Commandments which God gave to the children of Israel via Moses was the measuring tool for the blessings and cursing in the life of each and every person under it-namely Israelites! Imagine if you were living under that old covenant, were a perfect obedience was demanded from you to avail any blessings you need in your life, and you, lawfully failed in the entire Holy requirement from God and end up carrying the curses mentioned in the covenant!! Because failure of keeping the law will bring different forms of curses upon you! “ However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you”. [Deuteronomy 28]
If I would have been under it, I would have definitely look forward for a change or a shift from that “YOU shall not” demanding system to an unconditional supply system where someone says lovingly “I will do” it all for you!
That’s what exactly God wants from you! You to realize the impossibility of keeping the law and be blessed! Understand this ministry of death which is engraved on stone can never makes you righteous!! Know what is sin and the need of a savior, because …”by the law is the knowledge of sin.”[Rom 3:20]. God wants every one of us to realize the strain of earning the blessings from God and look for a Savior to redeem us from the curse of the obedience based blessings system! God uses it as a school master to bring us in to Christ by promising a new covenant where the end of this covenant [Mosaic Law] will be made by Himself – Through Jesus Christ!
…Christ is the end of the law”[Rom 10:4] . Because, under the old covenant, the focus was on YOU! – You shall not…. You shall not …You shall not …It was all about your performance, your obedience, your works, your will power…Did you notice that there were not even a single time mentioning of “I will “in any of the 10 commandments God gave it! It’s designed to bless you only when you fully obey it! You will be hold guilty by breaking even one!
“If you obey every law except one, you are still guilty of breaking them all”[James 2:10]
But in the New Covenant through the blood of Jesus Christ , the entire “YOU SHALL NOT “has changed as “I WILL” from God. Because in the cross Jesus Christ become liable for all our sins and become a curse for us to redeem us from the curse of the law! He made a New covenant in His blood where all the blessings from God becomes unmerited for anyone who believes in Him! Such a powerful act of obedience from our kinsman redeemer!
A cross [x] to the old covenant through the CROSS of His passion activated the “I WILL DO IT” in the Calvary! A permanent shift from “YOU SHALL NOT “to “I WILL “as Jesus permanently shift the era as BC and AD !
He did it because God is love and He wants us to be blessed permanently and unconditionally! The loving kindness of God towards us made available the everlasting, eternal covenant which makes the old “You shall not “demanding Sinai covenant obsolete from its validity through the victorious resurrection of Jesus Christ from the death! Because born under law Jesus has fulfilled all the Holy demands of law by His perfect obedience and “He cancelled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross”[Colo 2:14]. Thus the entire closures in the New covenant becomes Gods unmerited favours for anyone who believes in Him!
The 10 Commandments! – The Old covenant demands! – YOU SHALL NOT![Exodus 20]
- You shall have no other gods before Me.
- You shall not make idols.
- You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
- Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
- Honor your father and your mother.
- You shall not murder.
- You shall not commit adultery.
- You shall not steal.
- You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
- You shall not covet.
Thank God! He found fault with this whole system and made it obsolete!
“When He said, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete.[Heb 8:13]
Because He found fault with the people being disobedient to the Holy law of God!
“But God found fault with the people and said: “The days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the people..Hebrws 8:8
He made the new covenant as He has promised …the covenant which makes all the blessings of God become an act of love towards us from our heavenly Abba father!
The New Covenant – Unconditional Love from God! – ” I WILL” !
- I will put My laws into their minds,
- And I will write them on their hearts.
- And I will be their God,
- And they shall be My people.
- I will be merciful to their unrighteousness!
- I will no longer remember you sins and your lawless deeds!
Yes! In the New Covenant, God says, “I will put My laws in their mind ..I will be their God …I will be merciful to their unrighteousness and ..Their sins and lawless deeds I will remember no more”. Here it’s no longer you working for God, but God working for you, in you, through you! His grace is enabling you to inherit all the blessings! You are not working or doing right for Him anymore! He has done it! It Is Finished in Mt Calvary!
You may surely ask here that “Isn’t there something for me to do”?
Yes! Your part is to believe Gods “I Will “promises under the new covenant. That’s all! The more you believe His “I wills “promises, the more you will see His heart for you and eventually more faith will spring in you to enjoy the blessings in your everyday life effortlessly! Because the work God wants you to do in the New Covenant is to believe in the solution/provision He has made available for us! The one He has sent! Jesus Christ! The savior of the world!
“The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent“[John 6:29]
Dear friend, when God says I will ….rest assured He will do it! No matter whatever it is ! Your part is to have faith in His word! The only thing you can “do” under the new covenant is to not focus on what you must do for God, but focus on what God says He has done for you! The more you know what God DID for you the more you will enjoy the blessings in your life and will praise the Lord always! Thus you will end up fulfilling all the gracious commandments of God by the power of Jesus’s blood bought eternal covenant.
Summary!
Through Jesus Christ’s Finished Work on the Cross the entire “You shall not” old covenant system becomes “I will” in the New Covenant System. Jesus has done it! And GOD WILL continue to fulfill all the promises He has made in Christ Jesus ! Say Amen to have it!
Anyone who believes in Jesus Christ can avail all the blessings freely through Him! Every born again Christians are no longer under or need to be guided by the 10 commandments. Because a believer in Jesus Christ is now under a NEW and BETTER Covenant with BETTER principles governing it (Heb 8:6). Every child of God is Holy, righteous and perfect in Christ Jesus! Boldly enter and Rest in this powerful statement from God!
… For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law [Old Covenant] but under grace.[New Covenant]…[Rom 6:14]
